Chardonnay, 2022
Vintage Notes:
Winter started mild and rainy until January, when we had several extreme cold events. This led to varying degrees of winter damage (in some cases extreme). Coupled with a naturally small yield, most of the Finger Lakes faced extremely low yields across the board but especially with red vinifera. What few reds we did bring in were intense and beautiful, but they will be hard to find upon release. The beautifully warm spring and early summer was followed by some intense rain events in September, after which we were gifted with one of the driest Octobers in decades.
Tasting notes
Lime leaf, asphalt, and white nectarine on the nose is balanced with a refreshing minerality component from the concrete egg. On the palate, lemon pith, papaya, and green apple. This wine is refreshing and bright, but with a depth of flavor and texture from the lees aging. An excellent wine now, this wine will continue to develop over the next 3-6 years.

Winemaker Notes:
Only the best fruit was hand picked in the early morning so we could press the juice while it was still cold. Then fermented as slowly as possible to maintain the fruit characteristics. Aged for 7 months in stainless steel with 10% in concrete egg with regular lees stirring for complexity and mouthfeel.
