Saignee Rose 2022
Vintage Notes:
Winter started mild and rainy until January, when we had several extreme cold events. This led to varying degrees of winter damage (in some cases extreme). Coupled with a naturally small yield, most of the Finger Lakes faced extremely low yields across the board but especially with red vinifera. What few reds we did bring in were intense and beautiful, but they will be hard to find upon release. The beautifully warm spring and early summer was followed by some intense rain events in September, after which we were gifted with one of the driest Octobers in decades.
Tasting notes
High acidity and bright fruitiness make this an excellent food wine, and should age well the next 1-2 years, which is unusual for rosé. Violets on the nose with grapefruit and wet stone. Cranberry, strawberry jello, and Valencia orange with mouthwatering grapefruit pith finish.

Winemaker Notes:
Saignée is French for 'bleeding'. It is also one method to make rosé, where one 'bleeds' off a small percentage of juice from a red fermentation early on to concentrate the red wine. The pink juice that was separated is fermented alone to make rosé. Saperavi is one of a few varieties with red flesh and red skins, giving the wine a delightfully deep magenta color. We also used the saignée method on Arandell, Cab Franc, and Merlot.
