Vignoles 2022
Vintage Notes:
Winter started mild and rainy until January, when we had several extreme cold events. This led to varying degrees of winter damage (in some cases extreme). Coupled with a naturally small yield, most of the Finger Lakes faced extremely low yields across the board but especially with red vinifera. What few reds we did bring in were intense and beautiful, but snap them up quick before they disappear. The beautifully warm spring and early summer was followed by some intense rain events in September, after which we were gifted with one of the driest Octobers in decades.
Tasting notes
This Vignoles is bursting with pineapple, nectarine, and mango. It is a true tropical fruit bomb. A more weighty wine than most whites we produce as well as deeply aromatic, this wine also has the viscosity reminiscent of a Viognier. The 2022 vintage is fun, fruit, with sweetness to balance the aromatics. An excellent wine with spicy Asian food, but especially fruit-based desserts like peach cobbler.

Winemaker Notes:
Naturally high in sugar and acid, this wine is very versatile for a range of wine styles. Known for its high yields, we managed the fruit set to keep the clusters open and allow the fruit to hang for longer. For this wine, we harvest early in the morning to keep the grapes cool. We used a yeast (X16) to help bring out the tropical fruit in a slow, cool fermentation to preserve aromatics.
