Barrel Aged Chardonnay, 2022
Vintage Notes:
Winter stated mild and rainy until January, when we had several extreme cold events. This led to varying degrees of winter damage (in some cases extreme) coupled with a natually small crop, most of the Finger Lakes faced extremely low yields across the board. The beautifully warm spring and early summer devolved into a faily wet and gray late summerand fall. Sugar levels were lower than usual, but the whites developed delicate complexity with the acid backbone that will age beautifully.
Tasting notes
Subtle oak influence with lots of apricot, yellow peach, and baking spices like allspice and clove. On the palate, bright notes of lemon zest are tempered by dried apricot, papaya, and apple. Sweet vanilla and light toast from the French oak balances the medium bodied wine. Clove and vanilla dominate the finish.

Winemaker Notes:
Grapes were machine picked and fermented at cool temps in stainless steel before being transferred to French oak barrels for maturation with 15% new French oak. Weeklylees stirring was done to increase mouthfeel and texture. The wine was left on oak for 14 months before bottling. No malolactic fermentaion was done on this wine but htere is a slight creaminess and richness that suggest there might have been a small partial spontaneous maloctic fermentation, although the wine has retained its bright acidity and liviliness.
