Dry Riesling 2023
Vintage Notes:
An unusually warm winter and early spring lead to budbreak almost a month early. The early budbreak and extreme frost on May 18th damaged yields throughout the Finger Lakes, although Knapp recovered well. Periods of intense rainfall with stretches of warm and dry weather, resulting in a statistically 'average' year but felt anything but average. The rain abated by August and we were able to let the grapes take their time ripening in perfect Autumn weather.
Tasting notes
Overall more citrus-forward and crisper of our Riesling portfolio, this wine presents intense notes of white peach with hints of wet stone. Delicate aromatics with white flowers and lemongrass, the palate delivers what the nose promises and more. Tangerine, ruby red grapefruit, and beeswax. Fresh and refreshing to the end, with lingering notes of citrus on the finish.

Winemaker Notes:
The grapes survived the May frost and benefited from the extended growing season. Small berries with thicker skins than normal, this wine should really develop aromatically in the next few years. Cold settled for three days before being fermented at low temperatures to preserve aromatics. Left on the lees for six months before bottling to contribute texture and mouthfeel.
